Turkmenistan's resolution on neutrality unanimously adopted at OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting

On 21–22 June 2025, the 51st meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Istanbul with the participation of a Turkmen delegation. During the event, key issues of politics, economics, culture, science and humanitarian cooperation were discussed, as well as ways to strengthen stability and sustainable development in OIC countries. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The representative of Turkmenistan emphasised the country's commitment to developing partnerships within the OIC and expanding cooperation with the organisation's member states. Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan's initiative to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust by the UN General Assembly. On 22 June, at the proposal of Turkmenistan, a resolution ‘On the Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development in the OIC Space and Around the World’ was unanimously adopted. The document confirms that neutrality contributes to strengthening stability and developing mutually beneficial relations between countries. The adoption of the resolution reflects recognition of Turkmenistan's peacekeeping strategy aimed at strengthening trust, developing dialogue and constructive international cooperation.


Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Tajikistan held a meeting with the Head of the Khatlon region

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Tajikistan, Aymyrat Gochmyradov, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Khatlon Region of Tajikistan, Davlatali Said, within the framework of the International Tourism Forum ‘Khatlon – The Warm Heart of Tourism.’ This was reported by the news agency Orient. The parties discussed key areas of cooperation, ranging from agriculture and industry to humanitarian and tourism. Particular attention was paid to the development of interregional ties within the framework of agreements between the khakimliks of the Mary and Lebap velayats and the administration of the Khatlon region. In addition, the establishment of business contacts between entrepreneurs and the exchange of information on joint projects were discussed. The symbolic opening of the Magtymguly Pyragy School in the Dusti district on 1 September 2024, attended by the Heads of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan via video link, was noted separately. At the end of the meeting, mutual interest in expanding trade and economic partnership and launching new joint initiatives was confirmed.


Turkmenistan Ambassador to Qatar meets with Ethiopian Ambassador

On 22 June 2025, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Qatar, Myratgeldi Seyitmammedov, met with the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. During the talks, the Turkmen ambassador emphasised the significance of declaring 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust in the country, as well as the role of international events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. In addition, the interlocutors discussed issues related to simplifying procedures for foreigners crossing Turkmenistan's land borders and the use of Ashgabat International Airport. Particular attention was paid to the work of the humanitarian corridor ensuring the return of foreign citizens to their home countries. An exchange of views also took place on the development of bilateral interaction and possible areas for further cooperation. Following the meeting, mutual readiness to strengthen the partnership between Turkmenistan and Ethiopia, including in the humanitarian sphere and international cooperation, was confirmed.


The Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Rome met with the Deputy Diplomatic Adviser to the Prime Minister

On 19 June, Turkmenistan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Italy, Toyly Komekov, met with Pietro Sferra Carini, Deputy Diplomatic Adviser to the Prime Minister of Italy, in Rome. The talks took place at the Palazzo Chigi, the official residence of the Italian government. This was reported by the online publication Orient. During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the agreements reached at the first ‘Central Asia - Italy’ Summit and during the bilateral meeting of the Heads of State in March 2025. Particular attention was paid to preparations for the upcoming business forum, which will be an important platform for the development of economic cooperation. The President of Turkmenistan congratulated participants on the beginning of Culture Week

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a congratulatory message to the participants, in which he noted the importance of the event for promoting national cultural achievements. In his message, the Head of State emphasised that holding Culture Week in the International Year of Peace and Trust is particularly symbolic. This event demonstrates Turkmenistan's success in strengthening international cooperation and preserving cultural heritage. The Ahal velayat, with its rich historical and cultural heritage, has become an ideal venue for the festival. The programme of the Culture Week includes concerts, creative meetings, poetry evenings, and screenings of new plays and films. In the concluding part of his address, the President of Turkmenistan wished all participants in the festival of art creative success, health and longevity.


Telephone talks between the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the US Deputy Secretary of State took place

During the conversation, the parties noted the long-standing positive experience of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including politics, trade, economics, and social and cultural areas. Particular attention was paid to discussing current international and regional issues, in particular the situation in the Middle East and related humanitarian aspects. The Turkmen side emphasised its commitment to the principles of peaceful settlement of international disputes and expressed its readiness to use the full range of diplomatic instruments to promote stabilisation in the region. The special role of Turkmenistan as a neutral state, recognised three times by the international community through the UN, was noted.


Representatives of Turkmenistan took part in the international HR forum in Astana

Representatives of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Turkmenistan took part in the international forum ‘GovHR: New Systems, Modern Services, Novel Solutions,’ held on 20 June in Astana. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The event, timed to coincide with International Public Service Day (23 June), was dedicated to modern HR practices in the public sector. The Turkmen delegation studied foreign experience in human resource management within the framework of international cooperation. Turkmenistan expands cooperation with IAEA

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the development of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during a government meeting on 20 June. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. Turkmenistan actively cooperates with the IAEA, applying advanced international practices in the peaceful use of atomic energy in healthcare, agriculture, ecology and water management. Proposals have been prepared to expand the partnership, including the signing of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Country Framework Programme for Turkmenistan for 2025-2029, which defines priority areas and objectives for cooperation. The issue of the country's accession to the Agreement on the Privileges and Immunities of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the organisation of the participation of a Turkmen delegation in the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna are also being considered. In addition, it was proposed to hold a regional seminar on nuclear material security in Ashgabat in November with the participation of experts from Central Asia, the Caucasus and Asia. After hearing the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of strengthening cooperation with international organisations and instructed to continue active work with the IAEA.


The President of Turkmenistan has approved a tender for the construction of an ammonia plant

On 20 June, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the announcement of an international tender for the construction of an ammonia and ammonium nitrate production plant in the Mary velayat. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. The proposal to announce the tender was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Baymyrat Annamammedov. The Deputy Prime Minister also reported on the activities of the complex under his supervision, in particular the State Concern ‘Türkmenhimiýa’. In his report, he noted that active work is currently underway to produce various mineral fertilisers, strengthen the material and technical base of the industry and launch new production facilities. After listening to the report, the Head of State emphasised the importance of developing the mineral fertiliser industry and noted that modern enterprises equipped with innovative equipment and technologies are being built and put into operation in Turkmenistan. The President of Turkmenistan instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to take all necessary measures to organise an international tender.


The Mejlis of Turkmenistan strengthens the legal framework and international cooperation

On 20 June, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, reported on the current work of the national parliament. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. In particular, draft laws are being developed to improve civil and legal legislation, create a state register of voters, regulate issues of scientific intellectual property and virtual assets, and update customs regulations. This work is being carried out in accordance with the Constitution of Turkmenistan, state programmes and proposals from relevant departments. The Ashgabat cinema hosted a screening of the film ‘In August of 1944,’ organised by the Russian and Belarusian embassies in Turkmenistan, according to the news website Turkmenportal. The screening was timed to coincide with the Day of Remembrance and Mourning, observed on 22 June, the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin recalled the heroic deeds of Soviet soldiers and stressed the importance of preserving historical truth. Belarusian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Stanislav Chepurnoy called for resistance to the distortion of history and emphasised our responsibility to future generations. The film, directed by Mikhail Ptaschuk and based on the novel by Vladimir Bogomolov, is dedicated to the work of SMERSH fighters in the final months of the war and has become a symbol of their heroism.


Turkmenistan helps transit foreigners leaving Iran

About 50 countries have asked Turkmenistan to help their people leave Iran. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. In response, Turkmen checkpoints have already allowed more than 2,000 foreign citizens from Central Asia, Russia, South Korea, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, the UK, and a number of other countries to pass through. The Turkmenistan authorities are taking the necessary measures to ensure the unimpeded movement of foreign citizens and their return to their home countries, using both land routes and Ashgabat International Airport.
