Negotiations with a UN-Habitat Representative Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan
26.05.2026On May 25, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova and Erfan Ali, Regional Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. He arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the 25th Multidisciplinary International Exhibition and Conference “White City Ashgabat,” according to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The parties discussed the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat. It was noted that the interaction has a stable and consistent character within the framework of cooperation with the United Nations. The implementation of previously reached agreements and the further expansion of partnership were also discussed. Particular attention was paid to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat, which establishes the legal framework for cooperation. The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of preparing the draft Country Cooperation Programme for 2026–2030. The document is expected to define the main areas of interaction. The parties also considered issues related to further consultations and the expansion of practical cooperation.
Turkmenistan and Japan Strengthen Political and Economic Ties
26.05.2026On May 22, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Japan, Atadurdy Bayramov, held a meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister and head of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Headquarters for Economic Growth Strategy, Fumio Kishida. During the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to strengthening political, interparliamentary, and interparty ties, as well as expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan in the economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. Special attention was given to the significance of the meeting between the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Fumio Kishida, which took place in Japan in September 2022. The parties also noted telephone contacts with the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which, according to both sides, demonstrate sustained attention to the development of bilateral relations. In addition, the sides discussed specific areas for further expanding Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in the political and party spheres, issues related to supporting Japanese companies involved in major oil, gas, and chemical sector projects in Turkmenistan, as well as prospects for deepening economic cooperation.
Hero-Arkadag held talks with Ahmet Çalık
26.05.2026National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Ahmet Chalik, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Çalyk Holding” group of companies. The parties discussed the implementation of construction and industrial projects in Turkmenistan, the state news agency TDH reported. Ahmet Chalik conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hero-Arkadag, and also congratulated the Turkmen side on Ashgabat City Day. During the meeting, it was reported that “Çalyk Holding” continues the construction of a combined-cycle power plant on the Caspian coast and a urea production complex in the Balkan welaýat. It was also noted that Turkish companies are participating in the construction of medical facilities in Ashgabat, including the International Pediatrics Center, the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center, the Dental Center, and a 500-bed multidisciplinary hospital for the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also emphasized the modernization of the Ahalteke Equestrian Complex of the President of Turkmenistan. The importance of introducing digital technologies, modern equipment, and health monitoring systems for horses was highlighted. In addition, the parties discussed horse breeding events planned for the year marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, as well as the participation of the “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group in international festivals. At the conclusion of the meeting, Hero-Arkadag expressed condolences to Ahmet Chalik over the passing of his father, Mahmud Chalik.

Turkmen alabai became a symbol of friendship between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan

Cooperation with Russian regions, including the Republic of Tatarstan, covers energy, transport, high technologies, and other areas. The sides also cooperate in the field of dog breeding. Earlier, Hero-Arkadag had already presented Rustam Minnikhanov with a Turkmen Alabai named Akdost. The article notes that the transfer of the puppies became a symbol of Turkmen-Tatarstan friendship and contributed to the popularization of the Turkmen Alabai. It is also emphasized that in December 2025, the national nomination “The Art of Breeding the Turkmen Alabai” was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
