The Central Asian Climate Conference has opened in Turkmenistan
13.05.2025The Central Asia Climate Change Conference kicked off in the capital's Yyldyz Hotel on 13 May. The event was organised by the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme (CAREC) jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan with the support of the World Bank and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The forum brought together scientists, experts and representatives of international organisations, including UN bodies, to discuss climate threats relevant to the region. In a hybrid format, the participants emphasised the need for urgent measures to adapt to climate change, especially in the areas of water use, agriculture and energy. Prior to the conference, an exhibition on the unique nature of Turkmenistan was held as a reminder of the importance of biodiversity conservation. Speakers noted that combating climate change requires a comprehensive approach and integration of environmental strategies into national development programmes.

13.05.2025On 13 May 2025, a solemn event dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust was held at the Consulate of Turkmenistan in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Turkmen diaspora of Mangystau region, as well as students of the Caspian University of Technology and Engineering named after Sh.Yessenov. Special attention was paid to Turkmenistan's role in strengthening global security, developing interstate cooperation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The event included an exhibition demonstrating traditional Turkmen handicrafts, jewellery and textile products, which aroused keen interest among the guests. The meeting ended with the screening of video materials dedicated to the policy of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia discussed the strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation
13.05.2025On 12 May 2025, a meeting of the Turkmen-Saudi inter-parliamentary friendship group was held in the format of videoconference, which was attended by deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue, issues of deepening cooperation on the platforms of international and regional organizations, as well as exchanged views on the current agenda of bilateral cooperation. Special attention was paid to the need for progressive strengthening of equal and mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 13.05.2025On 8 May, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Tajikistan took part in the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which were held in the Victory Park of Dushanbe. 13.05.2025The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the coaches and athletes of the Arkadag football team on winning the Asian Football Confederation Challenge League, stressing that this success was an important achievement in the International Year of Peace and Trust. The Head of state noted that during the years of independence the country has been carrying out large-scale reforms in the sphere of physical culture and sports, which promotes the growth of interest in a healthy lifestyle and strengthens the international sports authority of Turkmenistan. Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled that Turkmenistan actively promotes the ideas of peace and friendship through sports, participating in the work of international organisations, including the IOC and the Olympic Council of Asia, as well as initiating the adoption of sports resolutions in the UN. In addition, it was emphasised that the creation of the Arkadag team was a significant step in the development of Turkmen football. Thanks to the attention of the state and the infrastructure of the new city of Arkadag, the team has demonstrated high results at the national and international levels. 10.05.2025Turkmenistan held celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov laid flowers at the monuments of the memorial complex ‘People’s Memory’. In his festive address, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the contribution of war and labour veterans to the development of the country, education of youth and strengthening of national unity. Veterans and families of the frontline soldiers received congratulations and material assistance from the head of state. The story of Berdimuhamed Annayev, a war participant, whose war documents and the regiment's banner are kept in the military school named in his honour, became a symbol of the memory of the heroic deeds of Turkmen soldiers. Victory Day celebrations coincided with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. This year the UN General Assembly reaffirmed the country's status as a neutral state maintaining peace and trust. A solemn ceremony was held at the ‘People’s Memory’ memorial with the participation of government representatives, veterans, youth and diplomatic corps. 10.05.2025On 9 May, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Moscow on a working visit at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to participate in solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This is reported by the state news agency TDH. At the airport ‘Vnukovo-2’ the President of Turkmenistan was met by officials and presented with rare copies of the newspapers ‘Pravda’ and ‘Sowet Türkmenistany’ from 1945. Then the presidential motorcade proceeded to the Kremlin, where a meeting with Vladimir Putin took place. Later, Serdar Berdimuhamedov together with other heads of state took a seat on the Central Stand of the Red Square. The Victory Parade took place there, opening with the striking of the chimes and Vladimir Putin's speech. A minute of silence was declared in memory of the victims. Troops of the Russian Federation and other countries, including the Honour Guard Company of the Ministry of Defence of Turkmenistan, took part in the parade. During the visit, the contribution of the Turkmen people to the common victory - both on the front and in the rear - was emphasised. After the parade, the leaders laid flowers at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Alexander Garden. Having completed his participation in the commemorative events, Serdar Berdimuhamedov left for Turkmenistan, where he was met by officials at Ashgabat International Airport.

10.05.2025The National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip to Ashgabat, during which he visited the construction site of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction and familiarised himself with the projects of other facilities. This is reported by the state news agency TDH. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also got acquainted with the building projects of the Centre for Children and Youth ‘Güneşli’ and supported the construction of a new children's library named after Bazar Amanov on its territory. During the visit, the issues of equipping educational institutions, improvement and application of modern technologies were discussed. In addition, the National Leader of the Turkmen People toured the territory of the Neutrality Monument, where it is planned to create museums reflecting the foreign policy course of the country. The Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty also got acquainted with information on the construction of a number of other facilities: Dental Centre, Oncological and Paediatric Medical Centres, residential houses, schools, kindergartens, cultural centre and infrastructure projects. Special attention was paid to the reconstruction of the Akhalteke Equestrian Complex of the President of Turkmenistan. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasised the need for high quality standards and scientific approach in the improvement of facilities. At the end of the visit, the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty gave instructions to control the timing and quality of construction, noting that large-scale construction works continue throughout the country and are aimed at the development of social infrastructure.
