Turkmenistan represented at UN Alliance of Civilizations forum

On December 14, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Gurbanov took part in the 11th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Riyadh. The forum brought together representatives of governments, youth and women's organizations, civil society, and the media from different countries. The central theme was the development of dialogue and mutual respect in a multipolar world. Speaking at the forum, Ahmet Gurbanov noted the role of the UN Alliance of Civilizations against the backdrop of growing mistrust and polarization in international relations. He emphasized the consistency of UNAOC's activities with Turkmenistan's initiative to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. The Deputy Minister presented Turkmenistan's proposals for joint work with the Alliance. These include promoting a culture of peace and mediation, developing humanitarian and intercultural dialogue, creating regional and youth cooperation platforms, and strengthening trust between peoples. At the end of the forum, participants adopted the Riyadh Declaration, which defines the further development of the UN Alliance of Civilizations.


Turkmenistan and Sao Tome and Principe have established diplomatic relations

On December 11, Turkmenistan and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe established diplomatic relations. The signing ceremony of the Protocol took place at the building of the Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the press service (https://www.mfa.gov.tm/ru/news/5810) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported. The document was signed by Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Celso Vaz do Nascimento Matos, Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe. The parties congratulated the governments and peoples of the two countries on the establishment of diplomatic relations. It was noted that this lays the foundation for the development of political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, as well as for interaction on international platforms, primarily within the framework of the United Nations.


Football club «Arkadag» won the Turkmenistan Championship

Football club «Arkadag» has been crowned champions of Turkmenistan for the 2025 football season. The team won all 28 matches of the Top League and claimed the gold medals for the third consecutive time, Turkmenportal reports. Founded in 2023, the club finished the season unbeaten. «Arkadag» collected 84 points, scored 105 goals and conceded 15. «Akhal» finished second with 55 points. «Altyn Asyr» placed third with 53 points. «Arkadag’s» forward Didar Durdyyev became the tournament’s top scorer, netting 26 goals. The battle for the silver medals went down to the final rounds. «Akhal» secured second place one round before the end of the season despite a 1–2 defeat to Ashgabat in the 28th round. «Altyn Asyr» closed the campaign with a 3–2 victory over «Merv». «Shagadam» finished fourth, followed by «Nebitchi» in fifth. They were followed by «Ashgabat», «Kopetdag» and «Merv». There is no relegation system from the Top League in the Turkmenistan championship.


The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Berlin celebrated the 30th anniversary of Permanent Neutrality

On 12 December, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Germany hosted a ceremony dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, International Neutrality Day and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's Permanent Neutrality, according to the news website Turkmenportal. The event was attended by representatives of the ‘Willkommen in Berlin’ organisation, the German Foreign Affairs Ministry, diplomatic missions, as well as public and cultural circles. During the official part of the event, the significance of these dates and Turkmenistan's peacekeeping activities were discussed, as well as international conferences and forums held in honour of the holidays. Guests were shown videos and photographs demonstrating the country's achievements and cultural heritage. As part of the cultural programme, Turkmen cuisine was served. At the end of the event, participants congratulated the government and people of Turkmenistan on the anniversary of neutrality, wishing them peace and prosperity.


The fifth meeting of the Heads of the Foreign Affairs Ministries of Afghanistan's neighbouring countries will be held in Ashgabat

Afghanistan's neighbouring countries have agreed to hold a fifth meeting at the level of Foreign Affairs Ministers in Ashgabat, according to the Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry following a meeting of special representatives in Tehran. Turkish companies are implementing 19 projects worth $10 billion in Turkmenistan

According to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, following his visit to Ashgabat and participation in the International Forum on Peace and Trust, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality, 19 projects involving Turkish companies worth approximately US$10 billion are being implemented in Turkmenistan. This was reported by the online publication Business Turkmenistan. Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that since independence, Turkish businesses have invested approximately US$55 billion in Turkmenistan. The Turkish President emphasised that the country is an important destination for Turkey's major infrastructure and investment projects. The Turkish President also announced plans to increase bilateral trade turnover to $5 billion, noting the potential for further expansion of cooperation. In 2024, trade between the countries amounted to $2.17 billion.


Boxer from Turkmenistan wins bronze medal at World Championships in Dubai

Young representative of Turkmenistan wins international AMAKids Olympiad

Baymuhammet Annamuhammedov, a schoolboy from Turkmenistan, won the International Mental Arithmetic & English Language Olympiad – Independence Cup, organised by the AMAKids International Academy. Children and teenagers from different countries took part in the Olympiad, competing in mental arithmetic and English language skills. Based on the results of the competition tasks, Baymuhammet Annamuhammedov took first place in his age category, showing the best result. The Independence Cup Olympiad is held in an international format and aims to develop intellectual and language skills in children and teenagers.
