From 26 to 30 May 2025, the Public Health and Nutrition Centre of Turkmenistan is hosting a training for national trainers on prevention, surveillance and treatment of zoonotic diseases. The event is organised with the support of the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan within the framework of the Pandemic Fund project aimed at strengthening pandemic preparedness through a ‘One Health’ approach in Central Asia. The participants of the course were specialists of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan. Professor Natalia Pshenichnaya, WHO international consultant on zoonosis control, conducts the classes. According to Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the International and Scientific Relations Department of the State Veterinary Service, the course plays a key role in strengthening the country's capacity to control zoonoses, which contributes to improving epidemiological well-being and protecting human and animal health. The main objective of the training is to train national trainers, who will subsequently conduct cascade trainings for specialists at regional and local levels.
A three-day tactical medicine course for 31 officers of Turkmenistan's Border Guard Service and medics from the Central Hospital concluded in Ashgabat. The event was organised by the OSCE as part of a project to strengthen the capacity of the Border Guard Service with financial support from Germany. This is reported by the IIC. The course participants learnt techniques of emergency aid in the field, methods of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the peculiarities of transporting the injured and the specifics of working in extreme natural conditions. Practical exercises included simulations of real emergencies with training on how to deal with various traumas. The acquired skills will enable border guards to respond more effectively to incidents in difficult natural and climatic conditions.
Turkmenistan's Health Minister Murad Mammedov met with Dr Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, in Geneva on 22 May this year within the framework of the 78th session of the World Health Assembly. This is reported by IIC. During the talks, the parties discussed priority areas of development of Turkmenistan's health care system, paying special attention to the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, measures to combat cancer and improving the system of response to infectious threats. Dr Kluge noted Turkmenistan's achievements in the health sector and confirmed WHO's readiness for further cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on the development of early diagnosis and screening programmes for cancer diseases. The meeting confirmed the mutual interest of the parties in strengthening partnership for sustainable development of the health care system and improving the quality of medical services.
Medical centres of Turkmenistan's velayats, the capital and Arkadag city received modern laboratory equipment as part of the project ‘Strengthening the clinical and laboratory service in Turkmenistan’. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. According to the source, the medical centres were equipped with 10 sets of equipment IMMULITE 2000 XPI, which is designed for conducting diagnostic studies of various diseases using the method of Chemi Luminescent Immuno Assay (CLIA). In addition, 15 sets of RAPIDPoint 500e Blood Gas Systems have been installed in velayats’ medical centres. These analysers are designed for rapid diagnosis of patients' condition by determining the gas composition and acid-base balance of the blood.
The WHO Regional Office for Europe held the Day of Turkmenistan, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality. The Director of the Bureau, Dr. Hans Kluge, noted the success of Turkmen medicine in disease prevention, vaccination and improving the medical literacy of the population. This was reported by the online publication "Turkmenistan: Golden age". During the meetings, preparations for the international conference on healthcare, which will be held in Ashgabat in October 2025 with the participation of representatives of the WHO and the ministries of health of European countries, were discussed. The photo exhibition held within the framework of the event clearly demonstrated the development of the healthcare system of Turkmenistan over the past three decades. The Day of Turkmenistan confirmed the international recognition of the country's achievements in the medical field and strengthened its position as an active participant in WHO global initiatives.
